OU Softball: Oklahoma Star Selected With First Pick in WPF Draft

The Oklahoma City Spark selected a Sooner pitcher with the first overall pick in the 2023 WPF Draft.

Oklahoma pitcher Alex Storako may be hanging around the Sooner State after the 2023 softball season concludes.

The OU right-hander was selected with the No. 1-overall pick in the 2023 Women’s Professional Fastpitch Draft by the Oklahoma City Spark on Monday night.

Storako transferred to Norman for her final season after a decorated career at Michigan, and has delivered when donning the Crimson and Cream.

In 18 appearances, Storako has racked up a perfect 13-0 record, striking out 85 batters while only allowing eight walks.

Her 0.80 ERA ranks second on the team behind Nicole May, but is good enough for her to rank sixth overall in the country this season.

Opponents are currently hitting .138 off of Storako, which would match her career-best mark from her 2021 season at Michigan. Her ERA would also stand as the best season of her career, all while she’s been able to pitch fewer innings as a member of OU’s strong pitching staff.

Storako was unanimously voted the Big 10 Pitcher of the Year in 2021, and this season she was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after shutting out UCLA at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in February.

The Oklahoma City Spark already have a trio of former Sooners on the roster in Jocelyn Alo, Keilani Ricketts and Lynnsie Elam, and are coached by Oklahoma alumni Amber Flores.

The Spark’s inaugural season in the WPF will begin on June 15 when they host the Smash It Sports Vipers.
