OU Softball: Oklahoma Star Wins Big 12 Player of the Week

Jayda Coleman led OU's perfect 7-0 week with incredibly productive performances from the leadoff spot in the lineup.

Jayda Coleman’s explosive week earned well-deserved recognition on Tuesday.

Oklahoma’s star center fielder was named Big 12 Player of the Week after helping the Sooners navigate a perfect 7-0 week, including a win over then-No. 6-ranked Florida State and a pair of victories over No. 19 Auburn.

In seven games, Coleman hit 11-for-21, launching two home runs and drawing two walks while driving in nine RBIs.

Coleman was especially good in Sunday’s Hall of Fame Classic finale against Auburn, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 that included a two-run home run that put the Sooners in front in the third inning.

Retaining her spot as OU’s leadoff hitter, Coleman has taken her game to another level this year.

Currently, she leads the Sooners with a .507 batting average, boasting an incredible .639 on-base percentage, which is the second-best mark in the entire country.

Coleman has now hit seven home runs on the year, which is tied with Alyssa Brito for the team lead, and she’s driven in 20 total runs in 28 games.

OU right-hander Alex Storako won Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 28, but Coleman is the first Big 12 Player of the Week for the Sooners in 2023.

Now, Oklahoma will turn its attention to conference play.

This weekend, the Sooners will open their Big 12 slate on the road in Ames, taking on Iowa State for a three-game series.
