Oklahoma State Baseball Gets Even With TCU After 6-2 Win
After losing to the Horned Frogs 1-0 the night before, Oklahoma State got back in the win column Saturday in game two of their series with TCU. The Pokes took an early 4-0 lead in the second inning and never wavered, going on to win 6-2. They will play TCU again on Sunday night for a chance to win the series.
The right-handed Junior Brian Holiday got the start and the win on the bump yesterday, going the full nine innings. Holiday surrendered four hits and two runs on the mound, and he recorded 14 strikeouts. It was one of the best pitching performances we have seen this season from Oklahoma State, especially when considering the strength of the opponent. Let’s see if they can keep it up in game three to win the series.
The Cowboys had a solid day at the plate, and it was enough to get the job done. Three of their runs came off of a home run to left center, hit by left fielder Kollin Ritchie. Ritchie finished the day one-for-five with three RBIs.
Four different Cowboys reached first on walks, with designated hitter Nolan Schubart drawing three of them. Overall, there were not a lot of notable individual performances offensively, but everyone chipped in and made something happen in what was a great team effort.
We saw a well-rounded game from the Pokes on Saturday night, although the pitching shined especially bright. It seems as though the Cowboys are hitting their stride after an up-and-down start. OSU will finish its series with TCU on Sunday before taking on Wichita State on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. CT. The Pokes will have a three-game series against West Virginia over Easter weekend.
NOTABLE PLAYERS:
Brian Holiday – 9.0 IP, 4 HA, 2 RA, 14 K
Kollin Ritchie – HR, 3 RBIs
