Kevin Durant Says It's ‘Miserable’ to be an Oklahoma State Fan
Social media ran wild this week as Texas head coach Rodney Terry reacted to UCF throwing horns down signs at the Longhorns after an upset win. The Knights defeated Texas 77-71 after outscoring them by 18 points in the second half.
So, how does Oklahoma State get involved in this? A Cowboys fan tweeted about Terry's situation, going as far as saying Texas is "soft" after his reaction. He then name-dropped Phoenix Suns and former Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant.
"I shouldn't be surprised because [Kevin Durant] played there," the fan wrote on social media.
Naturally, this sparked a response from Durant, who is typically on social media and is far from afraid to engage in discourse from fans. This led to him sending a stray in the direction of Oklahoma State.
"I know it’s miserable being a Oklahoma state fan," Durant responded.
Durant spent his one season of college basketball playing for Texas, hence his defense of the program after Terry was upset about the horns down signal. He averaged 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
In his season with Texas, he also played Oklahoma State two times, one time in Stillwater and the other in Austin. The first matchup, which came in Gallagher-Iba Arena, was a triple overtime thriller that saw the Cowboys win 105-103. Durant shined in the loss with 37 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.
The next game, Durant and the Longhorns got their revenge in Austin in an 83-54 blowout victory. He's got a 1-1 career record against Oklahoma State. It was a much more rounded game in the box score this time around, as Durant posted 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting with each of the other starters all scoring in double figures.
As pointed out by Brandon Rahbar of Daily Thunder, Durant once made the hour-long trip from Oklahoma City to Stillwater to play flag football with Oklahoma State students.
