Oklahoma State Basketball Defeats Chicago State in Final Non-Conference Game
Heading into Wednesday night's matchup against Chicago State, the Oklahoma State Cowboys already had momentum as they brought a four-game winning streak into the matchup. In dominating fashion, the Cowboys extended their winning streak to five games as they defeated Chicago State 72-53.
For the first few possessions, the game stayed close. The Cowboys then began to pile together stops and go on a huge run. The 15-0 run gave the Cowboys a 24-6 lead over the Cougars.
Playing stout defense and getting stops allowed for the Cowboys to take efficient shots on the offensive end and continue to slowly build a big lead. By halftime, the Cowboys led 43-25.
The Cowboys were shooting an impressive 15-of-26 from the field in the first half, which included 50 percent from beyond the arc. For the Cougars, they shot 9-of-34 and only had two guys make more than one shot.
Bryce Thompson had 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting to lead Oklahoma State in scoring for the first half.
Of course, the Cowboys would continue to expand on their lead in the second half. They got up by as much as 23 points early in the second half by playing through the paint and getting to the rim, as they did in the first half.
After the first few minutes of the second half, though, the Cowboys cooled off. Their lead was trimmed to 15 points at the under-12 media timeout. The timing of the media timeout benefitted the Cowboys, who were able to stabilize the mini run from the Cougars.
Despite a poor second half shooting performance, Oklahoma State was able to eventually cruise to a victory against Chicago State. This marked their fifth straight win as they head into Big 12 conference play.
Thompson led the Cowboys with 13 points, though 11 of those came in the first half, as Eric Dailey and Javon Small both added 12 points themselves.
The Cowboys saw points scored from 11 different players in the game. The continued balance offensively has been huge for the squad as they've recently captured momentum.
With the win, the Cowboys are now 8-5 on the season and their next action comes Saturday as the Cowboys host the No. 18 Baylor Bears.
