Oklahoma State Blown Out at Home Against No. 3 Kansas
Oklahoma State never led as it suffered another disappointing loss.
OSU lost to No. 3 Kansas 90-66 in a game that quickly got out of hand to push OSU’s losing streak to four. Still unable to win a Big 12 game, OSU’s struggles were highlighted against Kansas.
After trading scores to begin the second half, Kansas went on a 12-0 run to extend its lead to 28 and effectively end any chance of an OSU comeback.
While the Cowboys were well on pace to outperform their 42-point performance against Iowa State, their 33 first-half points were still not enough. Seven turnovers at halftime and zero fastbreak points doomed the Cowboys early.
With some of the best players in the Big 12, Kansas’ talent was too much for OSU to handle. Projected first-round pick Kevin McCullar Jr. went for 18 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Meanwhile, Hunter Dickinson led Kansas in scoring with 21.
However, a couple of other Jayhawks led the attack in Stillwater. Combining for 27 points on 11-of-12 shooting in the first half, Johnny Furphy and KJ Adams Jr. were integral parts of building a big lead.
Kansas’ lead reached double figures for the first time at 21-10 and OSU failed to get its deficit below 10 points again. Within the first half, Kansas got its lead up to as much as 20.
After the Cowboys' deficit reached 20 with about five minutes left in the half, they tried to create a spark with a 6-0 run but it was all for not. Despite that run closing the gap to 14, OSU would not get any closer.
The Jayhawks put their foot on the gas early, leading 6-0 just 1:08 into the game to force Mike Boynton into a timeout. Although the game was only a minute in, it may have already been decided.
OSU will again look for its first conference win at Kansas State on Saturday.
