Oklahoma State Blows 17-Point Lead Against TCU, Remains Winless in Big 12 Play
The Cowboys looked poised for their first Big 12 win in the opening minutes, but their fast start was not enough.
Oklahoma State fell to TCU 74-69 in Gallagher-Iba Arena after blowing a 17-point lead. TCU’s comeback and win included a big performance from a former Cowboy.
OSU’s offense struggled down the stretch, making just one field goal in the last nine minutes. While free throws helped OSU keep it close, those makes from the line were not enough.
After spending the first four seasons of his college career with OSU, Avery Anderson III played his first game back in Gallagher-Iba since transferring to TCU. The guard finished with 15 points and four assists and drew a critical offensive foul on Javon Small as TCU held a three-point lead.
While the former Cowboy had a solid game, Emanuel Miller led the Horned Frogs with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.
OSU’s starting backcourt provided a scoring punch in the second half. Small and John-Michael Wright combined for 23 points after halftime to give their team a chance to win.
In the opening minutes of the second half, TCU tied the game at 39 before taking the lead one possession later. But OSU responded with a couple of deep shots to take the lead back.
After the Cowboys built a 17-point lead, the Horned Frogs went on a 17-2 run to get back into the contest. Despite their best start to a Big 12 game, the Cowboys only led by four at halftime.
In his second straight game off the bench, Eric Dailey Jr. gave OSU an instant boost offensively, scoring four points in his first minute of action. Those buckets put OSU in the lead as part of a 15-0 run.
Jarius Hicklen nailed a couple of 3-pointers in that stretch. He helped the Cowboys get in a groove from beyond the arc as they shot 10-of-27.
The Cowboys will play in Stillwater again on Saturday when West Virginia visits.
