OSU Basketball Center Isaiah Miranda No Longer With Program
Oklahoma State has gotten off to a far-from-ideal start to their Big 12 basketball slate. It started in non-conference play, where they temporarily had a losing record. They bounced back with a winning streak leading up to conference play, but it wouldn't hold for long.
Taking an 8-5 record into Big 12 play beginning, the Cowboys then rattled off four straight losses. They played a close game against Baylor, but the three games that followed were essentially no-shows in double-digit losses.
The season only continues to get more weird, too. Now, 7-foot-1 center Isaiah Miranda is no longer with the team, as head coach Mike Boynton announced on Wednesday.
“Really good kid,” Boynton said. “We’re pulling for him, but he won’t be with us moving forward.”
Miranda is a former four-star who graduated high school early to enroll at NC State to develop his game. This offseason, he weighed his options as to whether he'd make the leap to the pros or stay in college basketball.
Eventually, Miranda transferred to Oklahoma State as a redshirt freshman. Injuries riddled the start of his career in Stillwater before he eventually made his debut, though he saw limited time with the Cowboys.
Boynton mentioned Miranda had been dealing with personal issues before deciding to step away from the team, and that he's now going to begin seeking professional opportunities.
Miranda suffered a hip injury in the team's exhibition game before the season and then rolled his ankle when it was time for his debut. He appeared in three games with the Cowboys, with a season-high of ten minutes played against Oral Roberts.
Miranda's situation isn't ideal and he was already dealing with plenty of talent at his position in Stillwater. He's a talented, versatile big man whose services will be appreciated and used somewhere, but the Cowboys seem to have wanted to go a different direction as freshman big man Brandon Garrison is the team's starting center.
