Tracker: Oklahoma State Basketball Transfer Portal Moves
Oklahoma State is set for an offseason of changes.
The Cowboys finished the 2023-24 season with a 12-20 record and posted only four conference wins. The disappointing year is leading to a lively offseason off the court.
OSU fired coach Mike Boynton after seven seasons in Stillwater. With only one NCAA Tournament appearance in his tenure, OSU felt the need to make a move.
Of course, that move will have its consequences, including players bolting for the transfer portal. Known best for his recruiting ability, Boynton built talented rosters but often could not get the most out of his teams.
The Cowboys added some meaningful transfers from the portal last offseason, and although it didn’t pan out, they have shown their ability to get players to come to OSU. However, with some key pieces of last season’s team entering the portal, it might not be a positive for the team this year.
As OSU’s coaching search continues, its ability to recruit and keep players is limited. But this is only the start of what should be a wild few months for the Cowboys.
Transfer Portal Tracker
Outgoing:
Javon Small, G: After transferring from East Carolina in 2023, Small quickly became a vital part of OSU’s offense. At 15.1 points per game, Small led the Cowboys in scoring and was an All-Big 12 honorable mention.
Brandon Garrison, C: OSU’s defensive anchor announced his decision to enter the transfer portal after only one season in Stillwater. As a freshman, he averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks and could be a significant contributor for his next team.
Naz Brown, G: As a walk-on guard with the Cowboys for two seasons, Brown played in 10 games and served as the scout team point guard last season.
