Big 12 Football Recap: Winners and Losers of Week 9 /

Week 9 of college football is finished, and it provided some fun matchups. With the College Football Playoff rankings set to be unveiled in the coming weeks for the first time, watching contending teams play was a unique wrinkle to the weekend.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys, though, took care of business for homecoming as they took down the Cincinnati Bearcats 45-13 in a dominating win.

Here are the Big 12's biggest winners and losers of this weekend of college football.

Losers:

- Oklahoma Sooners. It's only right. The Sooners were projected to be a top-six team in the College Football Playoff rankings as they were the No. 6 team in the country ahead of their Week 9 loss.

The Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Sooners 38-33. It was inevitable for the Sooners, as they struggled a week ago against UCF. The Jayhawks capitalized on the opportunity, though, unlike the Knights.

While this doesn't put the Sooners out of the CFP race, it certainly sets them back.

- Houston Cougars. The Cougars followed up their miraculous win over the West Virginia Mountaineers a few weeks back with a close loss to the Texas Longhorns last week. Playing a top-ten team in the nation close is no easy battle, yet the Cougars did it.

It seemed as if the Cougars might have been picking up momentum in the Big 12, but they ended up losing to the Kansas State Wildcats 41-0. They were shut out. They caught the Wildcats at a bad time, as they were coming off a huge win over TCU.

Winners:

- Texas Longhorns. While "surviving" seemed to be the theme last week, they did much more this week. With the Sooners falling, the Longhorns victory became that much bigger.

The Longhorns downed BYU 35-6 behind a huge performance from their ground game. They were being led by backup quarterback Maalik Murphy and still ended up taking care of business.

- Oklahoma State Cowboys. Four straight wins for the Cowboys. Their midseason turnaround has them rolling right now, and Ollie Gordon continues to look better and better on a weekly basis.

Behind a big performance from Gordon, the Cowboys blew out Cincinnati 45-13. Five weeks ago, the Cowboys blowing any team out didn't seem reasonable, yet here we are. The Cowboys have taken much-needed momentum as they're one week out from the final Bedlam
