Mike Boynton Says Ollie Gordon is 'Priority' For Oklahoma State Football
The Oklahoma State Cowboys took on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. As they searched to improve their 3-5 record -- which they did with a win -- a certain Cowboy showed up to the game. Ollie Gordon walked into the building.
This wasn't the first game Gordon had been to on the season, but the star running back and recent Doak Walker Award winner made a point to show up to a game that was an hour south of Stillwater.
"I've been really, really fortunate to get to know a lot of the athletes on campus in my seven years. Unfortunately, [Gordon] is one I don't know that well. I certainly am a big fan of his," Boynton said after Oklahoma State's win. "I see him at every event. Sometimes I'm there as well and I don't need to be on camera, he needs to be on camera."
Gordon has emerged as a star this past season, from barely seeing snaps or touches in the first three games to finishing No. 7 in Heisman voting and winning an award for being the best running back in college football for the season.
What Gordon means to Oklahoma State can't be quantified, and his return would be an absolute win for the 2024 football season -- which is seeing five crucial offensive linemen returning.
"We need to make sure we take care of that guy. So, anybody who supports Oklahoma State athletics, he is priority No. 1, 2 and 3," Boynton continued. "I'm just proud of the way he represents the program, the way he represents Stillwater, the university. ...Really proud of him and the professionalism he shows."
Gordon has an animated personality and him being the face of the program is ultimately a good thing. He finished the season with 1,614 rushing yards and 326 receiving yards on 295 total touches for 21 all-purpose touchdowns.
