The Oklahoma State Cowboys transfer portal is picking up more and more, as more players are deciding the next step in their collegiate career should come with a different program. On Wednesday, the Cowboys had their eighth player hit the transfer portal.

Backup running back Jaden Nixon is on the move. As he enters the transfer portal, he's going to provide some program with some serious speed. He joined the program in 2021, appearing in 27 games across his career.

Nixon racked up 500 rushing yards on 110 carries in his time in Stillwater, finding the end zone twice on the ground. He added 314 receiving yards on 34 carries with an additional four touchdowns on catches.

While Nixon played more to start this past season, it was Ollie Gordon, the nation's best running back, who stole the starting job and held it for the remainder of the season. With Gordon potentially returning to Stillwater for the 2024 season, Nixon will have the potential to sign elsewhere and provide a real impact beyond being a backup.

Again, this is the Cowboys' eighth player to hit the portal and one of the more talented ones they've seen leave. Again, it's understandable as Nixon would have once again struggled to get playing time as long as Gordon returns.

This offseason, the Cowboys have gotten re-commitments from five returning starting linemen -- the same group that helped Gordon become the nation's best rusher as well as providing great pass protection. If Nixon had stayed and gotten some opportunity, running behind the returning blockers would have been a huge situation to be in.

It'll be interesting to see how the Cowboys handle Nixon's departure. They can always go to the portal to try and recruit a backup running back or allow younger running backs already on the roster the opportunity to grow and climb the depth chart.
