Oklahoma State Ranked No. 22 in Final AP Top 25 Poll
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are finishing the 2023 college football season ranked. In the final AP Top 25 Poll, the Cowboys were ranked No. 22.
After starting the season unranked, the Cowboys' 2-2 start did them no favors, especially with a bad loss and two low-quality wins. Still, they went on a winning streak and found themselves ranked in the AP Poll. They fluctuated from barely being ranked to No. 15, which perfectly encapsulates watching the Cowboys this season. It was a rollercoaster experience, and their ranking backed that.
To end the season, the two other ranked teams are Texas and Oklahoma. The Longhorns came in at No. 3, as they routed the Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship, stamping themselves as a College Football Playoff likely team. The Sooners were ranked No. 12 in the final rankings, too.
Kansas State and Kansas took some late-season losses that found them out of the rankings to end the season, though both teams were ranked for a good portion of the season.
What's to note about how the season ended is that the Cowboys are the highest-ranked Big 12 team outside of Oklahoma and Texas, the two teams departing for the SEC.
One could assume that next season if the Cowboys can be near the top of the new Big 12, they'll finish the season as a ranked team once again. Winning the Big 12 Championship will mean a little bit more as there will be 12 College Football Playoff spots with the new format.
For the Cowboys, though, making a Big 12 Championship and finishing the season ranked can be marked as a massive win, considering all the storylines leading up to the season and after the 2-2 start.
It'll be interesting to see how much of this season carries over to next season for Oklahoma State.
