Oklahoma State Star Running Back Set to Return Next Season
Ollie Gordon's time at Oklahoma State is not over yet.
The Cowboys' main contributor on offense will be back next year as Gordon announced he is returning for the 2024 season.
Gordon has had excellent numbers in his sophomore season, rushing for 1,614 yards, which is tops in the country. Gordon also has 20 rushing touchdowns this season, including five touchdowns against BYU in the last game of the regular season.
The running back has been a reliable receiver as well for the Cowboys. He has 37 catches for 326 yards and one touchdown, including six catches for 116 yards against the Kansas Jayhawks.
During OSU's five-game winning streak this season, Gordon was on a tear. He had five straight games with over 100 rushing yards, including two straight games with over 200 rushing yards. Out of 13 games so far this season, Gordon has surpassed 100 rushing yards in eight of those games.
Gordon's performance this season landed him many honors. He was named to PFF and CBS All-American teams on Wednesday. He is the third running back under OSU head coach Mike Gundy to earn All-American status.
Gordon was also named a Doak Walker Award Finalist and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year this season prior to the Cowboys taking on the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 Championship game.
Gordon's status is already big, but it could get even bigger. If Gordon wins the Doak Walker Award, he would be the first Cowboy to win in it program history.
With Gordon coming back, OSU's offense will have their main back for the 2024 season. With Joe Michalski returning on the offensive line and several other offensive linemen needing to make a decision, Gordon's return should be a key reason in those offensive linemen's decisions.
Gordon and the Cowboys will look to get to 10 wins on the season when they take on Texas A&M in the TaxAct Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 at 8 p.m. at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX. The game can be seen on ESPN.
