Oklahoma State WR Sets Texas Bowl Receiving Yards Record Against Texas A&M
Rashod Owens did a little bit of everything on Wednesday as the Oklahoma State Cowboys took down the Texas A&M Aggies 31-23 in the Texas Bowl.
From the first drive, it was obvious Owens was about to have a huge game. He finished the first drive with three catches and 50 yards, despite the Cowboys not quite getting into the end zone.
On the very next Cowboys drive, Alan Bowman fired a pass to the right corner of the end zone, and Owens won the jump ball over his receiver to add a touchdown to his total. By the end of the game, Owens had tallied ten receptions on 15 targets for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
Deservingly, Owens won the Texas Bowl MVP. He set a Texas Bowl and Oklahoma State bowl game record in receiving yards, showing how incredible his game was.
To put into perspective what kind of game it was for Owens, Cowboys receiver Brennan Presley threw Owens a deep ball on a trick play, and, despite it being a bad ball, Owen came down with the 34-yard reception.
Speaking of Presley, he was the second half of a receiving duo that had an incredible game. He tied the Oklahoma State receptions record with 16 receptions while adding 152 yards.
Owens having a game to this extent is a great testament to how valuable playing in bowl games can be for some players. Now, the Cowboys know what they have in Owens as they return a solid receiving corps next season.
On the season, Owens finished with 895 receiving yards on 63 receptions while pulling in five touchdowns. His other two 100+ receiving yard games on the season came against Kansas and Oklahoma, two of the Cowboys' biggest wins on the season.
For the Cowboys to have the comfort of returning Owens alongside De'Zhaun Stribling, who spent plenty of time injured this season, is huge alongside returning Ollie Gordon and the offensive line.
