Oklahoma State's Starting Safety Arrested on Sunday
The Oklahoma State football season hasn't been one to remember so far, and things continue to go downhill. According to Gabriel Trevino of the O'Colly, Cowboys starting safety Trey Rucker was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of a DUI at 9:30 a.m. CT.
In 2021, Rucker was arrested for a DUI, and that seems to be the case again. When he dealt with this case in 2021, he was also charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. That case was refiled as a misdemeanor.
Rucker was reportedly heading home from a film session. According to the Stillwater News Press‘ Marcus Trevino, Rucker was parked at a stoplight and didn't move after multiple cycles of the light.
The officer who made the stop made Rucker do a field sobriety test, but Rucker declined to blow into a breathalyzer. He will make his initial court appearance on Thursday.
Rucker, in his field sobriety test, reportedly struggled to touch heel-to-toe on nearly all of his steps, making the officer on the scene even more suspicious of a DUI.
The OSU athletics department is aware of the situation but has declined a statement according to a variety of outlets.
Rucker, as mentioned, is the team's starting safety. He played and started in the matchup Saturday against Iowa State, totaling five tackles, two solo and three assisted.
On the season, Rucker has made 18 total tackles, logging no other stats so far. The redshirt senior attended Wake Forest for his first two years of college football before transferring to Oklahoma State for the 2021 season.
It's unfortunate to see this matter, as the Cowboys' secondary is already struggling, and Rucker was a bright spot in the defense. He brings a level of experience and maturity to the defense that might have to be missed for some time now.
