Oklahoma State's Updated Odds to Win Big 12 Football Championship After Bedlam Victory
The Oklahoma State Cowboys remain tied for first in the Big 12. They defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 27-24 this past weekend, which put them in control of their destiny to close out the season.
The five-way tie for the top spot in the conference was weeded down to two teams. The Texas Longhorns remain at the top of the conference alongside the Cowboys.
So, what do the updated Big 12 football championship odds look like?
Well, the Cowboys come in with the second-best odds now. Knocking off teams like Kansas, Kansas State, West Virginia and Oklahoma will do that. They've got +420 odds, which narrowly leads Oklahoma, who has +470 odds.
Of course, Texas is still at the top of the odds. They're heavy favorites at -180. Still, the Cowboys are a great pick to make the conference championship game.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys have quite the easy remaining three games. They take on UCF, Houston and BYU, all of which are Big 12 newcomers and have all struggled in conference battles thus far.
Texas has TCU, Iowa State and Texas Tech on schedule remaining. It seems as if both teams have quite a solid chance to win out the rest of their schedule and match up in the Big 12 championship.
Still, it is the Big 12 and chaos could ensue, throwing off the Big 12 standings. However, as it looks now, the Cowboys will find themselves playing in both a conference championship game alongside a bowl game.
Given where the season started -- 2-2 with losses to South Alabama and Iowa State (which looks much better in retrospect) -- the turnaround has been quite incredible. It's crazy to think about what this team's ceiling could have been with a consistent starting quarterback from day one.
Still, if the 12-team playoffs were here, the Cowboys could see themselves in playoff action, which bodes well for the future.
