The Numbers Behind Ollie Gordon's Breakout Season
Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon had yet another incredible week, and he seems to continue improving game after game. He's been a huge focal point in Oklahoma State's season turnaround, as the offense has looked rejuvenated after the bye week.
With three straight wins, coming against Kansas State, Kansas and West Virginia, the Cowboys are rolling as they head into homecoming against Cincinnati on Saturday.
Again, Gordon has been a focal point of the offense as it's seen an incredible turnaround since the Cowboys scored just seven points in a brutal loss to South Alabama in Week 3.
In the Cowboys' recent game against West Virginia in Morgantown, Gordon finished with 282 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns on 29 carries. He had an explosive fourth quarter and absolutely iced the game as the clock winded down.
Gordon had 29 carries just a week ago against Kansas, so he tied his career high in that department. Per the OSU Football Twitter/X account, it was also the most rushing yards by a Cowboy since 2019, which is incredible to think about considering the amount of talent at the position Oklahoma State has produced.
This was Gordon's fourth straight game rushing for 100 yards or more. His impact lately can be measured in the box score or felt with the eye test. He's found the end zone seven different times over the last three games.
"It's really fun when you can handle business with your brothers and y'all just keep getting better and better each day," Gordon said after the game. "Playing with them is the best thing ever. I'm excited for them."
In the midst of Gordon tearing up defenses and looking like an absolute star as a redshirt sophomore, he remains humble and continues to praise his teammates and, more specifically, the offensive line and receivers continually blocking for him.
