Three Players to Watch: Oklahoma State vs. South Alabama
Oklahoma State has had a rocky start to the season, but there are a few players who may help it find some stability.
OSU has remained undefeated through two weeks, though not convincingly. But if OSU can get standout performances against South Alabama, it could head into Big 12 play riding high.
Three players to watch for OSU vs. South Alabama:
De’Zhaun Stribling
The former Washington State Cougar has been an immediate impact player for the Cowboys over the first two games. Stribling has 11 catches for 138 yards this season, good enough to lead the team in both categories.
As the Jaguars come into Stillwater, Stribling could remain a reliable target for the Cowboys’ unsettled quarterback situation. Last season, Stribling led his team in receiving touchdowns.
Against USA, Stribling could have some opportunities to add to his lone touchdown this season. If OSU can continue to get him the football like it did last week, he could have his biggest game yet with the Cowboys.
Collin Oliver
One of the superstars of the OSU defense, Oliver has been a key contributor since his freshman year. He has garnered a reputation for the pressure he puts on opposing quarterbacks.
With Oliver’s move to linebacker, he sits at zero sacks through two games. The junior has led OSU in that category each of his first two seasons.
Oliver has still made his presence felt this season as one of the Cowboys’ leading tacklers and forced a fumble against Arizona State. As the Jaguars and quarterback Carter Bradley come to Stillwater, watch out for Oliver as a threat to wreak havoc.
Gunnar Gundy
The three-man race for quarterback rages on with just a week until conference play, and it may be Gundy’s time to shine. After Garret Rangel and Alan Bowman each got a start in the first two games, it would be Gundy’s turn if that trend continues.
Although Gundy has the least reps thus far, he has the highest completion percentage and yards per attempt of the three quarterbacks. As pressure rises to name a starting quarterback, the play of each will be magnified.
If Gundy gets the start on Saturday, a couple of successful early drives could be enough to put him at the front of the race.
