Homecoming is one of the most anticipated weekends of the year for Oklahoma State, and its past homecoming games may tell the story of its upcoming matchup.

The Cowboys will welcome the Cincinnati Bearcats to Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday as they look to get their fourth straight win. With homecoming being such an important time for the OSU community, let’s take a look at how the Cowboys have done in their recent homecoming matchups.

OSU has won its past two homecoming games, with wins against Texas in 2022 and Kansas in 2021. Last season’s win against Texas was OSU’s last time hitting the 40-point mark until its win at West Virginia.

That game against Texas would also end up being the Cowboys' last Big 12 matchup with the Longhorns, barring a conference championship matchup this season. Meanwhile, OSU’s win over Kansas in 2021 was a defensive masterpiece.

Kansas scored just three points against OSU, a mark it had not held a homecoming opponent to since 1985 against Kansas State.

With no homecoming game in 2020 because of the pandemic, OSU’s last homecoming loss was against Baylor in 2019 after the Bears rattled off 21 unanswered and outscored OSU 35-7 in the final 24 minutes. But the year before, OSU had one of its most memorable homecoming games in recent history.

The Cowboys hosted No. 6 Texas in a primetime matchup in 2018 and pulled the upset. In their throwback uniforms, OSU held off Texas late to win 38-35 as Tylan Wallace finished with 222 receiving yards and two touchdowns to move just one win away from bowl eligibility.

That game was a part of OSU’s current stretch of homecoming success. Going back to 2011, the Cowboys have won nine of their past 11 homecoming games.

Since Mike Gundy took over in 2005, the Cowboys have gone 12-5 in those matchups. Much like their 2012 game against TCU, the Cowboys will be playing against a new conference opponent.

If OSU beats Cincinnati, it will all but guarantee the continuation of its bowl streak. As with every other remaining game this season, OSU has sold out homecoming.

Since 2020, OSU has lost only two conference home games. A win on Saturday would put the Cowboys at 6-2, tied for second in the Big 12 standings and in position to make a run at the conference title game.
