Big 12: All Pokes Big 12 Football Power Rankings After Week 8
The Oklahoma State Cowboys had yet another impressive week of college football as they took down the West Virginia Mountaineers on the road. They're now on a three-game win streak, having won each of the three games as underdogs.
Along with that, there was an interesting slate of Big 12 games on Saturday. Here are the updated Big 12 power rankings from the All Pokes staff.
1. Oklahoma, 7-0 (4-0)
The Sooners took down UCF in Norman this past weekend, though it was a much closer game than it needed to be as OU trailed in the fourth quarter. They hold their top spot this week.
2. Texas, 6-1 (3-1)
Another week passes and the Longhorns remain at No. 2 behind the Sooners. In the AP Top 25, the Sooners are No. 6 as the Longhorns are No. 7, so this checks out. Also, Texas beat Houston this past weekend, though it was a close one.
3. Oklahoma State, 5-2 (3-1)
For three straight weeks, the Cowboys have defeated their Big 12 opponent that was favored over them. They've had a turnaround this season and the back half of their schedule is quite favorable.
4. Iowa State, 4-3 (3-1)
Like Oklahoma State, Iowa State has been impressive in conference play, and their win over the Cowboys looks much better in retrospect. They continue to stay high in the rankings.
5. Kansas State, 5-2 (3-1)
The Wildcats absolutely dominated TCU in a Big 12 Championship rematch from last season. Their loss to Oklahoma State looks better as the Cowboys continue rolling and the Wildcats seem to have found their stride.
6. Kansas, 5-2 (2-2)
Kansas has a huge opportunity to turn things back around against Oklahoma this week, but their recent loss to Oklahoma State before the bye week has them down a few spots.
7. BYU, 5-2 (2-2)
BYU got their first non-newcomer win against Texas Tech this past weekend, and their record is beginning to look solid. They could continue and climb if they can keep winning, though they've got a tough test in Texas this weekend.
8. West Virginia, 4-3 (2-2)
After their second straight loss in a row, the Mountaineers continue to slide down the rankings and their record has evened back out after an impressive start to the season.
9. Texas Tech, 3-5 (2-3)
Coming off a loss to BYU, the Red Raiders failed to convert on an opportunity that could have seen them climb the rankings a bit more.
10. UCF, 3-4 (0-4)
UCF nearly got their first Big 12 win this past weekend as they lost to the Sooners 31-29 with an opportunity to tie things up at the end of the game. It was a very quality loss, but the Knights remain winless as a newcomer.
11. Baylor, 3-4 (2-2)
It was close, but Baylor squeaked out a win over Cincinnati this past weekend after having had a big lead. They have a tough challenge in Iowa State this coming weekend, too.
12. TCU, 4-4 (2-3)
The Horned Frogs were dominated by the Wildcats this past weekend, and they continue and look worse this season as they slide further down the rankings.
13. Houston, 3-4 (1-3)
With a conference win over West Virginia and a quality loss to Texas last weekend, the Cougars have the potential to climb and they're quite safe from falling down a rank to be the last-place team.
14. Cincinnati, 2-5 (0-4)
Cincinnati nearly got their first Big 12 win as they attempted to come back against the Bears, but they fell short and remain winless in the conference.
