Former Memphis OL Receives Offer From Oklahoma State
On Tuesday, Oklahoma State sent out an offer to former Memphis offensive lineman Makylan Pounders. Pounders currently holds several P5 offers, with many coming from the SEC. Some suitors include Mississippi State, Auburn, and South Carolina. Pounders stands in at 6-6, 290-pounds and was a three-star recruit out of high school according to 247 Sports. Without wasting any more time, let's take a look at where the Cowboys stand, as well as what kind of impact Pounders could make.
What Would Makylan Pounders Bring To The Table For The Pokes?
Pounders started nearly every game for Memphis this past season and was slated to start last season as well before he sustained an injury in week one. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Pounders had a good season with the Tigers last year, and he gained some valuable experience. "I had a good season at Memphis... I started thinking about transferring after the Missouri game."
Now Pounders has the opportunity to take a step up into a more formidable conference. If he were to commit to the Pokes, it would add a ton of depth to what is already a pretty solid starting five with the returns of Dalton Cooper, Jake Springfield, and others.
Would he crack the starting rotation? I can't say for certain, but at the very least he could be a reliable rotation guy. It'll be a tough pull, but if the Cowboys can land him, it would be a big boost to the offensive line room, to say the least.
Will Oklahoma State Land The Coveted Offensive Lineman?
As of right now, it does not look like the Pokes will be able to land Makylan Pounders. Things could change but don't hold your breath. Pounders is currently considered a heavy Mississippi State lean, which makes plenty of sense considering that he is originally from Byhalia, Mississippi.
Add to that the fact that the Bulldogs just hired Jeff Lebby, a highly regarded offensive mind, I just don't see a world where the Pokes can overcome that. Still, anything can happen. I will continue to keep you guys updated on his recruitment, but as of now, I am predicting that he will end up at Mississippi State.
