Oklahoma State Softball Notebook: Weekend Review (4/14)
Oklahoma State suffered its first series loss in conference play at Iowa State this past weekend
Iowa State took the series over the Cowgirls, taking Friday and Saturday's contest before OSU came back and took the victory in game three of the series on Sunday.
OSU now sits at 35-8, 13-5 in the conference, falling to No. 3 in the conference standings.
Friday: 2-0 loss to Iowa State
Oklahoma State had only five hits in Friday's contest as the Cyclones took game on of the series.
Iowa State pitcher Lauren Schurman got the start against the Cowgirls, and she delivered, giving up zero runs on five hits and two strikeouts in five innings of work.
The Cowgirls went with Lexi Kilfoyl, and she held the Cyclones at bay, giving up two runs on three hits, three walks and seven strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Ashley Minor was a spark plug on offense for the Cyclones, going 1 for 1 with two RBIs, including a solo home run in he fifth to put Iowa State up 1-0.
Iowa State would score one more run in the sixth, and hold OSU in the seventh, securing the series opener over Oklahoma State.
Saturday: 5-2 loss to Iowa State
Saturday was more of the same as Oklahoma State dropped game two of the series.
With the win, it was Iowa State's highest-ranked series victory in program history.
The Cyclones had two home runs in the contest, including pinch hitter Camille Marin hitting a three-run bomb in the seventh, securing the victory over the Cowgirls.
OSU's two runs in the contest came from Jilyen Poullard in the fifth inning as she smashed a one-out double to the wall in center field, scoring Macy Graf and Taylor Anderson, and giving OSU its first lead of the series at that point.
But Marin's walk off home run in the seventh broke the Cowgirls' hearts as the Cyclones took the victory and were looking for the series sweep on Sunday.
Sunday: 10-2 over Iowa State
OSU finished the weekend on a high note, collecting a run-rule victory over Iowa State on Sunday.
The Cowgirls had 11 hits on Sunday, including Caroline Wang going 2 for 4 with three RBIs in the contest.
Kilfoyl got the nod in the series finale, and she tamed the Cyclones, giving up two runs on two hits, three walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work.
Megan Bloodworth got things going in the second inning, hitting a triple into center field and scoring Macy Graf, Micaela Wark and Rosie Davis to make it 3-1.
After going silent in the next two innings, OSU would score seven runs in the final two innings, including Wang hitting a three-run shot over the wall in center field to make it 9-1.
Davis would add another run in the inning, launching a solo home run and increasing the lead to 10-1.
Iowa State would get one run in the bottom half of the seventh, but Kilfoyl would hold them to collect the win on Sunday.
