Oklahoma State Softball Preview: The Outfield
Just like the infield, the outfield is up for grabs as well.
With Katelynn Carwile and Chyenne Fator gone, and Tallen Edwards possibly switching to the infield, Oklahoma State head coach Kenny Gajewski will have three spots to fill out in the outfield this season.
With the season starting on Thursday, who are some of the names that can fill those holes?
Scotland David
David, who is a senior, is the veteran of the group but hasn’t got a lot of experience. She posted a .278 batting average in 13 games played last season, including a 3-for-3 performance early in the year against Incarnate Word. She also hit her first career home run against UCF last season.
In 2022, David suffered season-ending knee injuries, which also sidelined her for most of the 2023 season as well.
Gajewski said on Monday that David is healthy, and she is ready to compete for the Cowgirls this season.
“She hasn’t gotten a lot of opportunities because of her health,” Gajewski said. “She is healthy and has had a great fall and a great return. She’s going to get a lot of opportunities.”
Katie Lott
Lott was primarily a pinch hitter last season, but she made the most of her chances when she was called upon.
The sophomore collected a .370 batting average in 54 at-bats with 20 hits, two home runs and 12 RBIs.
Now with Factor and Carwile gone, Lott will have to be ready for any sort of chances that Gajewski brings her way this season.
Jilyen Poullard
A transfer from Mcneese State, Poullard will be another prime candidate in the outfield for the Cowgirls.
Poullard played only nine games at McNeese State in 2023, before choosing to leave the team. In 2022, she was a monster.
The senior led Mcneese State in batting average, home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage in 2022, including 45 RBIs that season.
Claire Timm
Another sophomore, Timm is another cowgirl that has a lot to prove in the 2024 season.
Timm was another player who spent most of her time as a pinch hitter, securing a .276 batting average last season with eight hits and six RBIs in 27 appearances.
There are so many options for Gajewski and his staff, and they will have to get it figured out before the season opener.
That season opener is on Thursday when OSU takes on Cal State Northridge at 3 p.m. in Northridge, CA. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+.
