Oklahoma State made a statement on Thursday.

OSU welcomed in No. 2 Texas on Thursday, and it took the 5-0 victory over the Longhorns at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater.

With the win, the Cowgirls improve to 28-5 on the season, while Texas falls to 28-4 on the season.

Texas came in with one of the top teams in the country, with seven players batting over .400 this season. That did not faze Lexi Kilfoyl.

The senior got the start on Thursday, and she delivered, giving up zero runs on seven hits, one walk and seven strikeouts in seven innings of work against the Longhorns.

Texas also came into the contest with a loaded pitching staff as all five players in the rotation are under a 2.00 ERA this season.

OSU took notice of that, and it caused some problems on offense. The Cowgirls had nine hits against the Longhorns, including three home runs.

Karli Godwin got the party started in Stillwater in the first inning, launching a solo shot into Cowgirl Cove and putting OSU up 1-0.

Both teams went silent on offense, until the Cowgirls came up to the plate in the third inning.

Tallen Edwards started the third inning with a bang, hitting a bomb over the wall in right field, and increasing the Cowgirl lead to 2-0.

Godwin and Caroline Wang kept the inning going, each hitting one-out singles, giving Claire Timm a scoring opportunity against the Longhorns.

Timm did reach on a fielder’s choice, but Wang was out at second, setting up runners on first and third with two outs and Micaela Wark stepping into the box.

Wark came through, hitting an RBI-double down the line in right field, scoring Godwin and making it 3-0 in the third.

After holding Texas scoreless in the fourth, Wark would hit the dagger in the fifth, hitting a solo home run and putting Oklahoma State up 5-0.

Kilfoyl would shut down Texas in the sixth and seventh, securing the victory over the Longhorns in game one of the series.

Oklahoma State is back at it on Friday as it takes on Texas at 7 p.m. CT at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater. The contest can be seen on ESPN 2.
