OSU Softball: Cowgirls Take Two Games Against South Dakota State
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State cruised past South Dakota State on Thursday.
The Cowgirls were in control all night, en route to two victories against South Dakota State in the home opener at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the wins, OSU moves to 15-2 on the season, while South Dakota State falls to 8-9 on the season.
Game One: 11-2 Win
Kyra Aycock got the start in the circle, and she tamed the Jackrabbit’s offense. She gave up two runs on three hits, with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work.
The Cowgirls collected 15 hits in the contest, including six players with over two hits against the Jackrabbits.
OSU got out in front in the second inning.
Caroline Wang started the inning off with a double, and Micaela Wark would get her home right away. Wark hit a two-run shot over the left field wall, scoring Wang and putting OSU up 2-0.
The Cowgirls would get one more in the inning as Haidyn Sokoloski drove in Lexi McDonald with an RBI-single, making it a 3-0 lead heading to the third.
OSU would score one in the third off of Wang's solo home run in the third, increasing its lead to 4-0.
After no one scored in the next three innings, South Dakota State would find some life in the sixth.
Emma Osmundson would get one home for the Jackrabbits off her RBI single, scoring Emma Christensen and cutting the lead to 4-1.
Lindsey Culver would keep it rolling, hitting another RBI-single and scoring Akayla Barnard to make it 4-2 in the sixth.
The Cowgirls quickly took back control of the game in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring seven runs, including two home runs in the inning.
Karli Godwin hit the first home run of the inning, blasting a ball over the wall, scoring Wang and increasing the lead to 6-2.
After OSU scored three more runs in the sixth, Sokoloski finished it off, launching a two-run home run and securing the run-rule victory over the Jackrabbits.
Game Two: 10-0 Win
Lexi Kilfoyl got the start, and the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week continued to shine. She gave up zero runs on two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Katie Kutz came in and finished the Jackrabbits, giving up zero runs on zero hits with two strikeouts in two innings of work.
OSU put up nine runs in the first three innings in the second game of the doubleheader, including six runs in the third inning.
Wang continued her strong day, hitting a liner into the gap for a double, scoring Claire Timm and making it 4-0 OSU in the third. The Cowgirls would score five more in the inning to put them up 9-0.
Kutz would shut the door in the last two innings, securing the doubleheader sweep over the Jackrabbits.
The Cowgirls return to action on Friday, and they will take on Seattle at 3 p.m. and Drake at 5:30 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
