OSU Softball: Why Caroline Wang's Transition to Stillwater Has Been 'Smooth' Since The Start of The Season
Change is hard, and Caroline Wang will agree with that.
"Having to work with new coaches, and figure out what they expect from me was a challenge for sure," Wang said.
Now with the season in full swing, Wang has become one of the leaders of Oklahoma State.
Through the first month of the season, Wang has posted a .392 batting average, with 20 hits, five home runs and 15 RBIs.
But when Wang arrived in the fall, the transition from Liberty to OSU wasn't the smoothest.
"I was just coming off a lot of off time," Wang said. "Pretty much the whole summer, I was just busy getting married, moving and a lot of different stuff. I didn't feel like I was doing great."
While the fall was a tough one for Wang, OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said he saw Wang's demeanor change once the season started.
"It has been smooth since the season got started," Gajewski said. "I think the fall was kind of rough on her some. Just coming into a new program. I couldn't figure her out.
"When she got back from our break, the season was here and she was ready. It's almost like these COVID-senior kids are really over the practice, and they want to play."
Now four weeks into the season, Wang and Oklahoma State are off to a 15-2 start, with three wins over ranked teams.
Wang said she's impressed by the depth this team had, and how everyone has acclimated to all the changes throughout the season.
"He can put anyone in at any time," Wang said. "You've seen the starting lineup has rotated, and everyone has done so well."
Wang and the Cowgirls are back at home this weekend in the Cowgirl Invitational, starting on Friday with Seattle at 3 p.m. and Drake at 5:30 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
