'Hung in There!' Mike Bianco Gives Thoughts on First 3 Games of Ole Miss' Season

The Ole Miss Rebels hold a 2-1 record entering the final game of their opening series on Sunday in Hawaii.

The Ole Miss Rebels have had an unorthodox opening series thus far against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, and they hold a 2-1 record after a win on Friday night and splitting Saturday's doubleheader.

Following game two of the doubleheader on Saturday (a game Ole Miss lost 9-1), head coach Mike Bianco gave his thoughts on the weekend so far, looking at things on a game-by-game basis.

Here's what the coach had to say in his opening comments.

Game 1: Ole Miss 5, Hawaii 4 -- 13 innings

"Long ballgame, but proud of our guys. I don't think we played our best baseball last night, but certainly hung in there and did enough. Pitched it well enough and got a few timely hits."

Game 2: Ole Miss 5, Hawaii 2 (first game of doubleheader)

"Today, Game 1, it looked like Gunnar Dennis wasn't sharp, but the good thing is he hung in there and made some pitches, did what he had to do to get off the field. For that, I'm proud of him."

Game 3: Hawaii 9, Ole Miss 1 (second game of doubleheader)

"The disappointing thing, we just feel like we didn't show up. Credit to Hawaii because I thought they were really good offensively. A lot of the pitching plans, they look like they may have made some adjustments. It certainly happens in baseball. Sometimes it's just their day offensively.

"Grayson [Saunier], really uncharacteristic of what he's done in the fall and early spring."

Saunier did not have a strong pitching performance in the late game on Saturday, going 3.2 innings in the seven-inning game and allowing five runs, four of which were earned.

The Rebels will look to return to the win column on Sunday in the series finale against the Rainbow Warriors. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. CT and can be listened to on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
