Memphis Rallies in Ninth Inning to Knock Off Ole Miss in Midweek Baseball
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels needed three outs to earn a win on Tuesday night, but instead, their two-run lead evaporated into an 11-9 final score in favor of the Memphis Tigers.
The Rebels trailed 6-1 at the end of the third inning, but by the end of the fifth, they had tied the game at six. Ole Miss' 9-7 lead came about in the bottom of the seventh inning, but a flurry of three Tiger home runs in the top of the ninth gave Memphis the win, continuing the skid for Mike Bianco's team this season.
Ole Miss utilized four arms on the mound Tuesday night, and the loss was credited to Mason Nichols who allowed the four runs in the ninth inning. Starter Grayson Saunier had a rough outing as well, surrendering six runs across his 2.1 innings pitched.
At the plate, the Rebels saw two RBIs apiece from Calvin Harris, Kemp Alderman and Anthony Calarco. John Kramer also drove home a run for Ole Miss in the loss along with Peyton Chatagnier.
With the loss, Ole Miss falls to 18-14 overall on the season, and it will carry that mark into another midweek contest on Wednesday night when it hosts the Alcorn State Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
