Mike Bianco Reveals Shakeup to Ole Miss Weekend Pitching Rotation
While the Ole Miss Rebels are still seeking consistency with moving parts in their offensive lineup, they will also see a change on the mound this weekend when they play host to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
On Monday, head coach Mike Bianco joined the radio waves of SportsTalk Mississippi for his weekly interview segment, and he revealed some changes he plans to make to his pitching rotation this week.
According to Bianco, he is expecting to start LHP Gunnar Dennis on Friday against Iowa, shifting RHP JT Quinn to the Saturday role. Righty Grayson Saunier will remain in his Game 3 slot on Sunday.
This appears to be an example of Bianco riding the "hot hand" in his rotation, as Dennis has given positive returns in his early outings with the Rebels, including a six-hit, two-run performance on Saturday alongside eight strikeouts and just two walks. Following the 12-2 win, he described his emotions in his first start at Swayze Field.
'Dream Come True!' Gunnar Dennis 'Tremendous' For Rebels in Swayze Debut
"Obviously nerves were there, but my first-ever outing at Swayze was completely like a dream come true," Dennis said on Saturday. "It was awesome. When you get a 4-0 lead in the first, it definitely helps. It makes you just go out there and throw strikes and get outs."
The Rebels have two midweek games this week before welcoming the Hawkeyes to Swayze on Friday. Ole Miss hosts Little Rock on Tuesday to begin its slate, and first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
