Ole Miss Baseball Swept at Vanderbilt, Sits Winless in Conference Play
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 3 Ole Miss Rebels will likely take a plummet in next week's top 25 after being swept by the No. 6 Vanderbilt Commodores over the weekend, capped off by a 7-2 final score on Saturday afternoon.
This weekend in Nashville marked Ole Miss' first 0-3 start in conference play in over a decade, and although they held a 2-0 lead early on Saturday, Vanderbilt stormed back with three runs in the fourth inning and four in the sixth to secure the series sweep.
Lefty Xavier Rivas got the start on the mound for Ole Miss, allowing three earned runs while striking out five. JT Quinn relieved Rivas on the mound, throwing 0.1 innings and allowing three earned runs of his own, and Mason Nichols closed out things on the hill for the Rebels, allowing one run over 2.2 innings.
At the plate, Ole Miss' runs came from a pair of solo shots, one from Jacob Gonzalez and one from Calvin Harris who had the best series at the plate for Ole Miss. Will Furniss and Anthony Calarco accounted for Ole Miss' only other hits at the plate on Saturday, and over the course of the three games this weekend, the Rebels were outscored 27-4.
With the loss, Ole Miss has now dropped four straight games, all of which came this week. The Rebels now sit at 14-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Ole Miss will return home this week for a midweek date against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Tuesday and will continue SEC play at home against the Florida Gators beginning on Friday. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
