Ole Miss Baseball Swept in Friday Doubleheader by Auburn
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss Rebels dropped both games of their doubleheader against the Auburn Tigers on Friday evening, falling 16-4 and 8-2 in games one and two, respectively.
Game one saw the Rebels fight in the early innings but eventually succumb to the run rule in the eighth frame. Anthony Calarco led the team in RBI with two, and Xavier Rivas drew the start on the hill, giving up six earned runs over the course of 2.1 innings.
He was relieved by a combination of five arms, and Mason Morris was the only reliever who did not allow an earned run in the loss.
Game two of the doubleheader was less of a blowout, but Auburn led from the second inning onward in Oxford. The only runs at the plate for Ole Miss on the day came from shortstop Jacob Gonzalez and left fielder Kemp Alderman, and JT Quinn was credited with the loss after drawing the start and surrendering two earned runs over 2.2 innings.
Quinn was relieved by Jack Dougherty, Sam Tookoian and Jackson Kimbrell in game two.
With the losses, Ole Miss now sits at 25-25 overall on the year and falls to 6-20 in conference play. The Rebels and Tigers will conclude their series on Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Swayze Field.
