Ole Miss Baseball Lands Duke Transfer Andrew Fischer Following Impressive Freshman Season
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels landed Duke Blue Devils transfer Andrew Fischer out of the portal on Wednesday after a strong freshman season on the diamond in Durham.
Fischer handled the hot corner at third base for the Blue Devils in the 2023 season, and his numbers at the plate made him an attractive commodity for Mike Bianco's team. On the season, he hit .289 with a .999 OPS and 11 home runs. He made his transfer announcement Wednesday morning on Twitter.
"First and foremost, I want to thank my family and friends for guiding me throughout this process," Fischer said in his post. "I could not have asked for a better support system. With that said, I am proud to announce my commitment to Ole Miss to continue my academic and athletic career."
The Rebels also landed a transfer less than a week ago in the form of another infielder, J.D. Urso from the Tampa Spartans.
Ole Miss will look to use some of these transfer pieces to right the ship after a lackluster 2023 season. The defending national champions failed to reach the SEC or NCAA Tournament during their title defense, and head coach Mike Bianco's contract was not rolled over following the disappointing campaign.
