Sounds From The Field: Reactions to Ole Miss' 6-2 Loss to South Carolina on Sunday

The Ole Miss Rebels couldn't clinch a sweep last weekend but secured a series win over the South Carolina Gamecocks in the SEC opener.

Sunday was a disappointing showing for the Ole Miss Rebels, as they had a chance to make a statement on opening weekend with a sweep of the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Still, the Rebels were able to capture the series win in the first weekend of SEC play this season, and they find themselves ranked in Baseball America's Top 25 as a result this week. Here are some of the key quotes following Sunday's loss at Swayze Field.

Ole Miss RF Treyson Hughes

"Good teams show up, and we didn't show up today. The only thing we can do know is flush it."

Being able to flush it is a crucial part of baseball. No team is going to go 60-0 in a season, and sometimes you are going to drop games you shouldn't. Overall, Hughes had a very nice series and showed his range in right, laying out to make a great catch in Game 2. He also had a two-RBI single that opened the floodgates for the Rebs on Saturday.

Ole Miss will have a chance to get back on track on Tuesday against Southern Miss.

Ole Miss Baseball vs. Southern Miss: Preview, How To Watch

Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco:

"If you don't play well, you lose in this league. It's the beauty of the Southeastern Conference. You usually don't out-man them."

Bianco has been in this league for a long time and understands what the recipe for success in the SEC looks like. He has also seen the ugly seasons and understands that if you can't manufacture runs, you won't win many games.

The Rebels aren't going to win a lot of games only scoring two runs. Every team in the SEC is talented, but the teams that tend to make noise execute in every phase of the game. The Rebels didn't do that Sunday.

The Rebels travel to Pearl, Miss., on Tuesday night to take on Southern Miss, and then they will head to Knoxville for a huge showdown against the Tennessee Volunteers. All games will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
