Different day, same result: the struggles continued for the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday night.

Ole Miss dropped the series opener to the High Point Panthers at Swayze Field on Friday, giving the visitors just their second win of the young season. Rebels righty JT Quinn toed the rubber to start the game, and he gave up two runs in the opening frame before Ole Miss had a chance to swing the bats.

At the end of the day, Quinn’s five walks and five hits pushed across five High Point runs, three of which were earned alongside an early error by second baseman Brayden Randle.

Once Quinn’s day was done after 3.1 innings, he was relieved by fellow righty Riley Maddox who worked 3.2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Sam Tookoian and Hudson Calhoun rounded out the game for the Rebels on the hill.

Ole Miss’ bats stayed on a difficult trajectory throughout the game, not pushing across a run until the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Campbell Smithwick that scored Jackson Ross from third.

The brightest spot of the day for Ole Miss' offense came in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ross hit a two-run shot with two-outs. In total, the Rebels put up nine hits and left nine men on base in the loss.
