Clutch Late-Game Hitting Lifts Ole Miss Over ULM in Midweek Game
The Ole Miss Rebels picked up another win on the diamond on Tuesday afternoon, taking down the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 5-3 thanks to some clutch at-bats late in the game.
The Rebels (13-5) fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning when the Warhawks put up a two-RBI double, but Ole Miss would answer with a push of its own in the top of the fourth. It was then that an RBI single from Reagan Burford, a HBP from Eli Berch and a sac fly from Andrew Fischer gave the Rebels a 3-2 lead.
That advantage was short-lived, however, as Mississippi-native Shawn Dalton Weatherbee hit a solo home run to left-center to tie the game at three apiece for ULM. This was the score that remained in place until the top of the ninth when Ethan Groff was able to hit a leadoff double to right, and he was brought home on an RBI triple from Andrew Fischer.
An RBI groundout from Ethan Lege gave the Rebels some insurance entering the bottom half of that frame, and it pushed the score to the final at 5-3.
On the hill, RHP Riley Maddox drew the start on the hill for Ole Miss, working six complete innings of six-hit, three-run ball and striking out two. He also surrendered one walk.

Maddox was relieved by a combination of Brayden Jones, Ryne Rodriguez, Mason Nichols and Connor Spencer. Nichols (1-0) was credited with the win for his 0.2 innings of work, and Spencer (3) registered the save.
Ole Miss will now return to Oxford to prepare for the opening weekend of SEC play when it plays host to the South Carolina Gamecocks beginning on Friday. First pitch in the opener is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT at Swayze Field, and the game will be televised on SEC Network+.
