Ole Miss Takes Low-Scoring Series Opener Over Mississippi State in Starkville

The Rebels can clinch the series with one more win this weekend.

The Ole Miss Rebels came away with a series-opening win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday night, winning 3-2 behind some strong pitching performances.

The Rebels turned to Jack Dougherty on the mound in the start, and he threw six innings of two-hit, one-run ball in the win, keeping the Bulldogs at bay while Ole Miss stranded 10 men on the bases.

Dougherty was relieved by Mitch Murrell in the seventh, and he allowed one run in his outing to help the Rebels secure the win.

At the plate, Ole Miss saw two home runs on the night, one from both shortstop Jacob Gonzalez and outfielder Kemp Alderman. Catcher Calvin Harris was also responsible for an RBI on a single in the latter innings.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 20-14 overall on the year and 3-10 in conference play while knocking Mississippi State to the same mark within the SEC.

Ole Miss will once again face the Bulldogs in game two of this series on Saturday with first pitch coming at 3 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
