Ole Miss Baseball Continues Transfer Portal Heater With Arizona State Shortstop Luke Hill
Arizona State shortstop Luke Hill announced his commitment to the Ole Miss Rebels on Monday after weekend visit in Oxford.
The 6-foot, 190-pound right hander out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, just finished his first season of collegiate baseball. In Hill's freshman season, he started in all 54 games for the Sun Devils, batting .314 with 63 hits and 43 runs scored. He also tallied six home runs, 11 doubles and 42 RBIs.
On the other side of the ball, he fielded .938 with 78 putouts. He notched 145 assists on the year, which was third in the PAC 12.
As a result of Hill's breakout freshman campaign, he was named All-PAC 12 Honorable Mention and the ASU Defensive Player of the Year at the Sun Devils Baseball Awards Banquet.
According to ASU Head Coach Willie Bloomquist, Hill was a mature hitter for his age with an evolved plate discipline. He had an on base percentage of .389 while being walked 23 times.
The Rebels were desperate to fill a spot at the shortstop position after losing Jacob Gonzalez to the Chicago White Sox after being drafted 15th overall. In addition, top high school signee Cooper Pratt reportedly signed an MLB contract with the Milwaukee Brewers after being selected in the 6th round of this year's draft.
