Rebels Earn Midweek Win Over Arkansas State Behind Six Arms on the Mound
The Ole Miss Rebels earned a much-needed win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a 6-3 final score in Jonesboro.
Arkansas State struck first in the bottom of the first inning with two runs, and it held that 2-0 lead until the top of the fifth when Ole Miss scratched across two runs of its own. The Red Wolves would respond with one run in the bottom half of the frame, but the Rebels would score again in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings to secure the win.
Left fielder John Kramer led the Rebels in RBIs with two, and he was joined in that category at the plate by Ethan Groff, Calvin Harris and Ethan Lege. Groff and Harris were responsible for RBIs in the fifth inning that tied the game, and both of Kramer's runs were produced in the sixth inning and after.
Freshman Jordan Vera drew the start on the mound for Ole Miss, and he was relieved by a combination of five arms, including typical outfielder and power hitter Kemp Alderman who threw two-thirds of an inning. Mason Nichols was credited with the win after his three innings of work, and Mitch Murrell earned his first save of the season.
With the win, Ole Miss improves to 21-16 overall, but the storyline around the team is its 3-12 mark in conference play. The Rebels will look to right that ship this weekend when the LSU Tigers visit Swayze Field.
First pitch between Ole Miss and LSU on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
