Rebels Dominate Nebraska, Win 2023 Cambria College Classic
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels picked up a championship at the Cambria College Classic on Sunday with a dominating 14-5 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The Rebels exploded offensively in the game, especially in the bottom of the first inning when they pushed across eight runs with 13 plate appearances. Ethan Groff continued his hot swinging with four RBIs in the win, and he was joined by three other Rebels with multiple runs driven home.
In all, seven Ole Miss players drove home at least one run on Sunday.
The Rebels also saw an efficient outing from starting pitcher Xavier Rivas. Rivas worked 4.1 innings of three-run ball, although he did surrender two home runs. The lefty was relieved by Brayden Jones out of the bullpen in the fifth inning, and head coach Mike Bianco also threw Mason Morris and Tommy Henninger in relief on Sunday.
With the win, the Rebels come home with some hardware, and they improve to 10-2 on the season. Ole Miss will next take the field back at home when they play host to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Oxford on Tuesday, and next weekend, it hosts the Purdue Boilermakers.
First pitch between Ole Miss and Southern Miss is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
