Rebels Run Rule Delaware, Sweep Season Opening Series

The Rebels picked up another run rule win on Sunday afternoon.

OXFORD, Miss. -- The No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels picked up their second run rule win in as many days on Sunday, knocking off the Delaware Blue Hens 14-4 in seven innings to sweep the first series of the season.

Shortstop Jacob Gonzalez had a monster day at the plate, putting up seven RBIs on two hits. Four of Gonzalez's RBIs came on a grand slam in the first inning following a sacrifice fly from Calvin Harris that got the scoring started.

Harris joined Kemp Alderman with two RBIs apiece, and Ethan Groff and Peyton Chatagnier drove home one run at the plate.

Xavier Rivas started on the bump for the Rebels, going 4.1 innings of one-run ball. Rivas walked four batters while striking out eight on the day, and he was relieved by Tommy Henniger and Jordan Vera who combined for the remaining 2.2 innings, giving up a combined three runs.

With the win, the Rebels' national title defense has started with a 3-0 record and a series sweep of the Blue Hens. The Rebels will take the field next for their midweek test against the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m, CT on SEC Network+.
