Rebels Continue to Struggle in SEC Play, Swept by Florida at Home
OXFORD, Miss. -- Things have certainly started poorly for the defending national champions in SEC play.
The No. 13 Ole Miss Rebels have an abysmal mark of 0-6 in league games this season after being swept by the Florida Gators this weekend, capped off by a 7-4 final score on Sunday afternoon.
Ole Miss turned to Xavier Rivas on the mound for the start, getting 5.2 innings out of the lefty where he surrendered four runs, two of which were earned. The Rebels were able to make it a 3-2 game in the fourth inning after a two-RBI double from shortstop Jacob Gonzalez, but the wheels once again fell off late in the game.
Mitch Murrell and Mason Nichols combined to give up three runs for Ole Miss in relief, and although two runs came for the home Rebels in the eighth inning, the deficit could not be overcome.
Ole Miss now sits with a 15-9 mark overall and an 0-6 record within the SEC, and the road does not get any easier for the Rebels moving forward. The Rebels will travel to Texas A&M next weekend to continue conference play, and then they will return home to host the Arkansas Razorbacks at Swayze Field.
Prior to its weekend road trip, Ole Miss will face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Tuesday in a neutral site game in Pearl, Miss. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
