Rivas' 12 Strikeouts Not Enough as Rebels Drop Game One vs. Alabama
The Ole Miss Rebels fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide in game one of their final series of the season on Thursday night, dropping the contest 4-1.
The game on Thursday was delayed from its start time of 4 p.m. due to lightning in the area, but once play was underway, Alabama struck first with two runs in the opening inning. The Tide would push across another run in the third and fourth innings, and Ole Miss' lone tally of the day came in the seventh via a double off the bat of John Kramer.
On the mound for the Rebels, Xavier Rivas drew the start and worked seven innings, and despite striking out 12 batters, his surrendering of four earned runs credited him with the loss. Cole Tolbert was the lone Ole Miss reliever to work out of the bullpen.
With the loss, Ole Miss now is 25-27 overall on the season and 6-22 in conference play. Since they will not qualify for the SEC Tournament, there are only two games remaining on the Rebels' schedule this season with both coming in Tuscaloosa.
Game two of the weekend series is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, and the set will conclude with a 2 p.m. CT first pitch on Saturday. Both games can be seen on SEC Network+.
