Ole Miss Basketball Expected to Hire Brian Burg as Assistant

Chris Beard is reportedly bringing in a familiar face to fill out his coaching staff at Ole Miss.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels basketball coach Chris Beard has hit the ground running in Oxford after just being hired on Monday.

Former Georgia Southern Eagles coach Brian Burg is reportedly joining Chris Beard's new staff at Ole Miss, according to 247Sports.

Burg has spent the last three years with Georgia Southern, and before that, he was a part of Beard's staff with both the Little Rock Trojans and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Burg served as Texas Tech's chief of staff from 2016-18 before moving into an assistant role for the rest of Beard's time in Lubbock.

After three seasons with the Eagles, Burg finished with a 42-44 overall record and 21-29 in Sun Belt Conference play. At the end of the 2022-23 season, Burg's contract with Georgia Southern was not renewed.

Beard was formally introduced as the 23rd men's basketball coach in Ole Miss history on Tuesday night.

Beard comes to the Rebels after a tumultuous ending to his tenure with the Texas Longhorns and was fired in January after being charged with felony strangulation/suffocation-family violence.

However, those charges were later dropped, and the case was dismissed by the Travis Country Sherriff's department, clearing the way for Beard to make a return to coaching.
