Chris Beard Close to Hiring New Assistant to Ole Miss Basketball Staff?

Chris Beard is reportedly eyeing a familiar assistant to join him in Oxford.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Following his hiring as the Ole Miss Rebels men's basketball coach last week, Chris Beard appears to be hitting the ground running in building his staff in Oxford.

According to On3, Beard could be closing in on bringing a big time assistant Ole Miss, namely Al Pinkins.

Pinkins previously served with Beard with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and helped the program reach the Elite Eight in the 2018 season. He also has previous experience at Ole Miss from 2011-14 where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Following his time in Oxford, Pinkins has served in roles with the Tennessee Volunteers, LSU Tigers and Florida Gators along with two stints at Texas Tech where he is currently employed.

Beard is hoping to assemble a staff that will help him reach his championship aspirations at Ole Miss, something he went into depth about during his introductory press conference last week at the SJB Pavilion in Oxford.

"I didn't come to Ole Miss to make the NCAA Tournament," Beard said at his introduction in Oxford on Tuesday. "We came to Ole Miss to win the NCAA Tournament. We're here to win championships, make Final Fours and play on Monday night."

Following Pinkins' departure, Beard went on to lead Texas Tech to a national championship appearance where they finished as the runner-up to the Virginia Cavaliers.
