Chris Beard to Ole Miss? AD Carter Vetting Coach 'Extensively'
It appears as though the Ole Miss Rebels are circling in on their two top candidates to replace Kermit Davis as head men's basketball coach.
Florida Atlantic's Dusty May, and recently fired former Texas Longhorns coach, Chris Beard.
And according to reports, Beard could be pulling ahead, with the Rebels said to be 'vetting Beard extensively'.
Beard was fired by the Longhorns in January after being arrested and charged with third-degree felony assault, stemming from an incident with his fiance.
Those chargers were later dropped by Travis Country District Attorney Jose Garza, thrusting Beard, rightly or wrongly, back into the conversation for job openings across the country.
And upon the firing of Davis at Ole Miss, Beard's name was immediately at the forefront of speculation.
Beard, 49, was in his second season as the head coach of the Longhorns and had led Texas to a 29-13 record.
Before his firing, Beard had the Longhorns sitting at 7-1 overall and ranked as the No. 6 team in the country.
Beard first became a head coach at McMurry University in 2012 and has also had stops at Angelo State, Arkansas Little Rock, and Texas Tech, compiling a 237–98 overall record.
