Coach Yo and Ole Miss 'Getting Close' to New Contract Deal
OXFORD, Miss. -- After reaching the Sweet 16 last season, Ole Miss Rebels head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin is not resting on her laurels this offseason, and apparently, neither is her school in regards to keeping her on staff.
McPhee-McCuin was made available to the media on Monday afternoon prior to her team's upcoming foreign tour in Italy, and she fielded a question regarding her ongoing contract negotiations with Ole Miss. No deal is set yet, but Coach Yo thinks it's nearing completion.
"I let my attorney handle that," McPhee-McCuin said, "and I just continue to focus on what needs to be done. We're getting close to getting it done. I'm super excited about that. I think everybody knows I love Oxford. This has become home for me, and I love Ole Miss. It's been healthy conversation."
It makes sense for the Rebels to do their part to keep McPhee-McCuin in town after she has taken the women's basketball program to new heights since her arrival. A team that was once the doormat of the Southeastern Conference knocked off the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal in last year's NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 as a result.
Although Ole Miss did not push forward to the Elite 8, it has certainly put the college basketball world on notice with its swift rise.
