Murrell Shines, Ole Miss Basketball Narrowly Falls at Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. -- The Ole Miss Rebels saw a big scoring night from Matthew Murrell on Wednesday, but they wound up in the losing column after a 78-74 final score.
Murrell led the Rebels in scoring with 23 points, hitting two threes and going 6-of-15 from the field, and he far outscored the rest of his teammates. Myles Burns was second on the team in scoring with 14.
The Rebels trailed by seven at halftime, but they made a rally following the intermission, one that came just short. Ole Miss narrowed the gap to a two-point game before Auburn was able to secure the final score.
As a team, Ole Miss shot 41 percent from the field and 33 percent from three, compared to Auburn's percentages of 48 and 35, respectively.
With the loss, the Rebels fall to 10-18 overall and 2-13 in conference play. Ole Miss will next take the floor on Saturday when it plays host to the LSU Tigers, and tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT in the SJB Pavilion.
The game between the Rebels and Tigers will be broadcast on SEC Network.
