After his hiring on Monday, new Ole Miss men's basketball coach Chris Beard isn't wasting any time setting up his new staff.

Reports indicate there is a reunion of sorts happening in Oxford, as Beard is expected to hire Brian Burg and Cinco Boone to be assistant coaches. Beard has already added Al Pinkins to his staff.

Burg was most recently at Georgia Southern after being on Beard's staff at Texas Tech and Little Rock, while Boone was an assistant basketball coach at the University of Texas at Arlington before being plucked to Oxford by Beard.

Boone previously coached with Beard at McMurry University and Angelo State.

Burg finished with a 42-44 overall record and 21-29 in Sun Belt Conference play. At the end of the 2022-23 season, Burg's contract with Georgia Southern was not renewed.

The Rebels were eliminated from the SEC Tournament in the second round with a 70-55 loss to Tennessee on March 9, as interim coach Win Case couldn't help Ole Miss past the No. 5 Vols in what would be his last game at the helm.

Beard comes to the Rebels after a tumultuous ending to his tenure with the Texas Longhorns and was fired in January after being charged with felony strangulation/suffocation-family violence.

However, those charges were later dropped, and the case was dismissed by the Travis Country Sherriff's department, clearing the way for Beard to make a return to coaching.
