Ole Miss Working on Contract Extension for Women's Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin
Prior to hiring Yolett McPhee-McCuin the Ole Miss Rebels women's basketball team struggled to put together a winning record, doing so only twice from 2010-2018, which was the year they hired McPhee-McCuin.
Even after hiring her in April of 2018, the first two seasons for the Rebels under McPhee-McCuin were not seasons to write home about as they went a combined 16-45, including 3-29 in SEC play.
However, in her third season with the Rebels, they appeared to turn a corner, going 15-12 and finishing as the runner up's in the Women's NIT after losing to Rice in the title game.
Her best two seasons came in years four and five as she led the Rebels to a combined 48-9 record and their first two NCAA Tournament appearances since 2007, with a Sweet 16 appearance last season showcasing another big step forward for Ole Miss under her guidance.
Now, following a successful tournament run that ended in the Sweet 16, Inside the Rebels is reporting that Ole Miss is working on an extension for McPhee-McCuin.
"We are working on that now," Ole Miss vice chancellor for intercollegiate athletics Keith Carter said. "We are hoping to get her locked into a new contract here in short order, and hopefully we can get that done."
The Rebels have taken continual steps forward with McPhee-McCuin at the helm, which makes her extension well-earned. Locking her in for the foreseeable future is a must if Ole Miss wants to continue being perennial contenders not only in the SEC, but as a national title contender as well.
